Firstly thank you so much <3 You made my day. I'm flattered that so many people took an interest in my work, which is average at best compared to everyone here on DA.
Also some people seem to be under the impression that I know how to "break in" to the "industry" because of certain things I'm doing. I'll have to break your hopes and dreams a little here and say firstly, I'm not fully IN the industry, more like a foot in one door and a foot in another and my arse in a window, if that metaphor makes sense.
I "know people" but that does not procure me any job currently, it's more like "hey it'd be cool if you could do this for us...we won't pay you or anything but you know, let's see what you can do." Which is better then nothing. How would you go about getting your butt in the window/ foot in the door?
Secondly, to address some questions that people seem to ask me a lot (people asking ME stuff? Woah no wai guys!)
How do you get inspiration?
A combination of things. Other artists work, music, books, literature, history. But the main place my inspiration comes form is random conversations I have with people and just, sometimes out of the blue, you get epiphany moments which you can't predict or force, so it's best to let it come to you. Often I go for a walk and sometimes on those walks I may or may not purchase overly sugary items....and/or an alcoholic beverage. But that's only when I'm having a massive art block.
How do you do things good?
Lol what? I wasn't aware I did XD. But thanks...
How are you able to vary in style so much?
Because I'm inconsistent XD Also I like to experiment, but if you're asking how as in how do I physically produce stuff so different to what I've last drawn then umm, basically just explore. Go look at as many art styles as you can, play around with them, find someone's art you admire, see how they've done their stuff, try out their techniques and find you "niche" After a while you'll realise what you're naturally good at and what you aren't. work with your strengths and try to find ways to improve or ways around your weakness. For example: you hate drawing feet; then don't draw them, or draw shoes, or go look for a style that suits yours that demonstrates good feet drawing.
How long have you been drawing for?
Ummm on and off since ever. But mostly I really got into it around ages 9-10. I played a lot of Zelda (Ocarina of Time) and really wanted to "art good" and draw Gannon and Link etc doing cool shit. So that's where it started. From there I guess I just kept trying out new stuff and drawing the next thing I was obsessed with, which was usually a character from a game or book. From there it became stuff I'd draw based on random ideas or conversations I'd had with people like; Oh wouldn't it be awesome if Gabe from Valve was a Medic in Left4Dead who shot lasers from his eyes and yelled GABE PUNCH...you know, normal things. Actually I recently had a conversation about what to do when purchasing Valve games which I thought I might draw at some point. It involved rubbing your face all over the game, putting it on your cereal and rolling in it....these kind of things happen to me regularly.
Thanks <3
P.S. : Don't be shy, I'm not a rage face and I'm no where near good enough to be arrogant so don't worry XD Remember "crap" is a style to, if you think you're "not good enough" go look at "Baman Piderman" on youtube: [link]
that's a very good example of what some people would call "crappy" art but done in a very good way.
